Bespoke Replacement
PMB offers a bespoke replacement service to our clients where the insured is fully involved in the replacement process. An item of jewellery is specifically created to meet the insured’ requirements to a specified value which is independently valued.
Some examples of our process are detailed below.
In this case the client had pictures of an original ring that had been lost. A scale drawing was created from the pictures and information provided by the insured by one of our artists and the insured elected to attend Hatton Garden to personally select replacement stones and discuss the design of the replacement ring. The images below show the hand making process together with the completed ring.
This process can be undertaken with all types of jewellery.
All jewellery items that are created by PMB are provided with a valuation and certificates where applicable (such as GIA/HRD certified diamonds) which fully define the item in question together with the retail replacement value for insurance purposes.
Earrings
It is a common perception that should one earring of a pair become lost then a new pair would need to be provided. This if often not the case as shown in the example below. Even the most intricate of designs can be re-created should this be required particularly in cases where sentiment attaches to the original pieces.
There are some styles of earrings where a pair may need to be created to ensure they are identical in terms of dimensions and settings however the original stones can be used in this process.
Our approach to replacement of missing earrings is to match the existing earring wherever possible. We have specialists who are able to undertake this successfully for over 95% of these types of claims.
